What Was MATUSA
Matusa is an ancient seaport and urban center on the Vapis Coast of Tamilakam that dates from at least the 1st century BC. Matusa has been mentioned in Bardic Sangam literature and a number of classical European historic sources. The port is a key to the trade between the Phoenicians, the Persians, the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Roman Empire. The important known commodities exported from Matusa were spices, such as black pepper and malabathron, semi-precious stones like beryl, pearls, diamonds, sapphires, as well as ivory, silk, spikenard and tortoise shells. Matusa is one of the largest cities ever during the 14th century. Matusa is a powerful city that challenged the supremacy of Takal and engaged in a strategy of surrounding it with its own network of allies. From the second half of the 6th century AD through to the late 7th century Matusa gained the upper hand although it failed to extinguish Takal’s power completely throughout a series of battles Matusa has dominated the region and lost ground over more recent years. Eventually both cities succumbed to the decay of the ancient world but today Matusa is a thriving metropolis with large cultural and financial centers.

Hello Matusa-ians
Join this city and become a citizen of Matusa! We will battle the Takal on Wednesday afternoon in the Feuding Cities game but first we need you to help build the city. Matusa is located in the Studio at SIGGRAPH in the Experience Hall. You can make a building or defend our targets from being hit in the game using the latest technology in laser cutting, 3D printing as well as some other more traditional forms. Or, you can build a cannon using motors hooked up to an Arduino to shoot at Takal. Learn how in our E-cannons workshop on Monday and Tuesday.
If video games are more your speed, create a building to be scanned into our virtual version of the game. You can also learn about creating games from some of our workshops on the game engine hosted by Unity. Or use this blog to discuss strategy for your city or trash Takal. Come and play the game, score points for our team and maybe even win a prize.
