To create the chaotic opening freeway chase in "Deadpool", Atomic Fiction needed to develop several new methodologies to handle the scale and complexity of the sequence. These novel approaches allowed Atomic to rapidly populate the fictional, full-CG cityscape and quickly adapt to artistic changes.

The size and scope of the meteors in Blue Sky's feature film, "Ice Age: Collision Course", presented the effects department with many new challenges. Overcoming those challenges required developing new tools and techniques that maximized efficiency in simulation, processing, and render times without sacrificing final image quality.

For "Ice Age: Collision Course", hundreds of terabytes of simulation data were created for a volcanic eruption. This talk focuses on an aspect of the effects-production process that has rarely been discussed: reuse. The Blue Sky team developed tools to make a small set of simulations fit each shot in a sequence.
