Appy Hour Submissions

Have you been slaving over a keyboard creating your app masterpiece? Are you a one-person team of superheroes storyboarding, coding, sampling music, wrangling imagery? Sounds like you could use a place to show your hard work!  

That's why you're invited to SIGGRAPH 2016’s Appy Hour, where independent app developers can introduce their apps to SIGGRAPH 2016 attendees. Get feedback, cultivate new ideas, and make contacts to help move your efforts along. Whether your app uses augmented reality, high-end mobile gaming, computational photography, image manipulation, location-based gaming, or anything you can make your mobile device do, come show it to our attendees.

We provide:

  • A spot to set up shop with your devices 
  • A sign with your name, logo, and app screen-shot

ACM Rights Management Form

If your work is accepted for presentation at SIGGRAPH 2016:

  • You must complete the ACM Rights Management Form. The form will be sent to all submitters whose work is accepted.  
  • Your representative image and text may be used for promotional purposes. Several SIGGRAPH 2016 programs - Art Gallery, Computer Animation Festival, Real-Time Live!, Technical Papers, and all installation programs  - will prepare preview videos for pre-conference promotion of accepted content, which may include a portion of the video you submitted for review.

How to Submit

Submissions are due by 22:00 UTC/GMT, 16 February 2016.

Log in to the SIGGRAPH Information System, select "Begin a New Submission," and then select "create" for the Appy Hour submission form. You will be asked to complete or provide:

  • The submitter's name
  • Contact information, affiliation, title of work
  • Names of your co-developers
  • List of credits
  • Hardware required to run your project if it is selected
  • A list of all licensed components and/or middleware
  • A single-sentence summary that introduces the achievements of your work (50 words or fewer)
  • A one-paragraph overview that highlights the innovations and significant accomplishments, commentary, or contributions to the SIGGRAPH community (250 words or fewer).
  • One "representative image" of the opening screen shot of your app suitable for use on the conference web site and promotional materials. See Representative Image Guidelines.

Educator’s Resources Submission option. Those submitting content to a SIGGRAPH conference have the option of donating materials of educational value to ACM SIGGRAPH online resources for the benefit of the education community. Learn more

Each submission will be judged on five criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Coolness
  • Graphic brilliance
  • Creativity
  • Technical wizardry

The jury will prefer work that can be presented in person at SIGGRAPH 2016.

Upon Acceptance

If your app is accepted, you must prepare and submit a revised one-page abstract. This abstract must be submitted by 29 April 2016. If we do not receive your one-page abstract by 29 April, you will not be allowed to present at SIGGRAPH 2016.

At SIGGRAPH 2016, accepted submitters will show their work during Appy Hour, where attendees will have the opportunity to see your work displayed, and you will have the opportunity to network with other app developers, gaming companies, etc.

If you wish to attend SIGGRAPH 2016, registration and travel costs are at your own expense, except for the contributor of record, who will receive recognition as specified in SIGGRAPH 2016's Recognition Policy. Please note that you do not have to register for the conference to participate in Appy Hour.

You will receive information on when and where your work will be demonstrated at SIGGRAPH 2016.

Submission deadline.

Acceptance or rejection notices are sent to all submitters.

29 April
Deadline to make any changes to materials for publication. 
One-page abstract due. If we do not receive your one-page abstract by 29 April, you will not be allowed to present at SIGGRAPH 2016.

24-28 July
SIGGRAPH 2016, Anaheim
